Empress Wu Zhao
BY CHRIS KIM
Empress Wu was the first female ruler of China. She became to the palace at the age of 14, and became Emperor Taizong’s concubine. In the palace, she was not the favorite to the Emperor, but she was praised for her beauty and her knowledge. She wanted to be more than a concubine, and she did this in a very horrid way. She strangled her own daughter to frame the empress and the head of the concubine. The emperor believed her because he thought that Wu Zhao would not kill her own daughter.
After the empress died, Wu Zhao became the new empress. After the Emperor died, the Wu Zhao ruled through her sons. Her strongest son Zhongzong was the ruler. She was getting tired, and she dethroned him. She made her weakest son Ruizong, and she still was not satisfied with the power she had. She dethroned Ruizong, and Wu Zhao became had complete rule over the Tang Dynasty. During the time she ruled, she only let smart people become a government official, and you need to work up to your position. The picture portrays Wu Zhao.
