Fall of Tang Dynasty

The Tang dynasty started to weaken at about 907. There were four main reasons why this occurred. First, the Eunuchs gained an extreme amount of power in the land. It was at the end of the Emperor Xuenzong’s reign that Eunuchs were finally allowed to be high officials. With these seats in power, the Eunuchs go so great that they were later able to enthrone and dethrone emperors. The Eunuchs essentially ruled the Tang Dynasty at that time. Also, The Separatist regions of Fanzhen were another reason why the Tang Dynasty fell. Separatist regions were regions that wanted to break off from the Tang Dynasty’s rule, similar to how the South seceded from the United States during the Civil War. By these areas seceding, the Tang Dynasty became less unified. The Tang slowly started to lose control of these areas until eventually; the land of the Tang was not so large anymore.
The third reason The Tang declined was because of the conflicts between different cliques within the dynasty. The two groups of court officials were from different social cases and Origins, so they had many disagreements. This then led to many conflicts, which along with the separatists conflict, led to less unity in the dynasty. After these three, the Tang Dynasty was weak and damaged so when the peasants rebelled (as seen in the image below), the Tang Dynasty was finally destroyed. The peasants were essentially slaves during that time, and because of the years of war, the Tang needed money so they taxed the peasants more and more. As a result, rebellion was their best and last option. The Tang Dynasty, after about 300 years, came to an end in about 907.
